BARRINGTON TOPS NATIONAL PARK

Get off the beaten track and into the clouds

The Junction Pools Campground is located within the Barrington Tops National Park alpine area at approximately 1500m ASL. It is a beautiful spot for hikers, cyclists and 4WD campers to immerse themselves into nature. The 12km track toward the Junction Pools from Barrington Tops Forest Road has gorgeous scenery and you’re likely to see Eastern Grey Kangaroos and wild brumbies on your way.

It is so named because the camp site is located near where the Saxby Creek joins with the Barrington River. The Barrington River, which runs adjacent to the camp site features pools of water bound by large rocks and white water on either side.

This location is a birding hotspot and Crimson Rosellas, Eastern Whipbirds, White-browed Scrubwrens, Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos can be seen here. Keep an eye out for the stunning Flame Robin catching insects in flight around the rocky pools as well.

Barrington Tops National Park is situated about 4 hours north of Sydney and is accessed via Scone (Gloucester access is currently closed).
