CENTRAL COAST

Nora Head shines at sunrise

When I woke up on that Saturday morning around 0400, I was headed for once place; Norah Head Lighthouse. It was a race against time, and physics really, to get there before sunrise. I arrived just before dawn and when I put my drone in the air my breath was taken away yet again by another amazing sunrise on this Central Coast of New South Wales.

The Lighthouse was built in the classic style and began operating in the early-1900s. Still active today is stands as a beacon for ships travelling along the coast to find their way. The rock shelves below the lighthouse provide an ideal location for early morning anglers to cast their lines. They also serve as an excellent place to stop and watch the waves roll in along the walking track which borders the landmark.

Beaches dot the coast line surrounding the Lighthouse on Norah Head and serve as a great place to watch the sunrise or cool off after an early morning jog. The rocky headland is also a wonderful place to spy Humpback Whales during their migration between the months of May to November. These peaceful giants gracefully cruising off of the coast is sure to capture your heart.

From coastal walks, inland hikes, beaches and rock pools; Norah Head is a location I will be sure to come back to.

Norah Head is 1 hour 30 minutes from Sydney.
