CENTRAL COAST

Waking up to Pearl Beach is waking up in paradise

Pearl Beach is the pearl of the Central Coast. Located south of Umina Beach between Mt. Ettalong and Green Point it boasts pristine sands and clean clear waters. So named for the way the sand is shaped by the waves to resemble the frills of an oyster.

The surf along the northern end of the beach is ideal for bodyboarders who can take advantage of the waves breaking close to shore. The southern end of the beach is ideal for bathers of all ages and abilities. It is a popular spot for families who will bring their cabanas and beach shades to spend the day relaxing in the sun, the breeze and the sound of the gently lapping waves. At the very southern tip of the beach is a rock pool perfect for swimming laps or for children to spy sea slugs and other forms of marine life.

Gazing out from the beach you can see out to the South Pacific Ocean but if you cast your gaze south you will see the Barrenjoey Lighthouse perched on the tip of North Palm Beach. It was amusing to me, the first time I saw it, that you could be standing on a beach in the Central Coast and be a "stone's throw" from the Northern Beaches of Sydney.

Be sure to venture out to Pearl Beach at dawn for a chance to see the seals which laze about in the waters off of Umina Point. One thing is for sure, no matter the time of day you visit, Pearl Beach is a real treasure.

Pearl Beach is situated about 1 hour 20 minutes North of Sydney.
